QES' responsibilities for the Innovative Pavement Research Foundation, Airfield Pavement Research project were to provide design and implementation of a plan to prioritize the necessary research and technology activities for the design of unbonded concrete overlays for aircraft loading conditions. Specific deliverables were the identification of factors effecting the performance of airfield unbonded concrete overlays providing a roadmap for the research; constructing and instrumenting an unbonded overlay test section at the NAPTF facility; and analyzing the information collected to derive an improved mechanistic design model for unbonded concrete airfield overlays.
