Provide testing and analysis for nine acres of the Chassis Field Pavement at Port Newark Container Terminal in Port Newark, NJ.

QES' responsibilities for the Port Newark Container Terminal Chassis Field Pavement testing and analysis project consisted of field testing and sampling; data assembly and analysis; and development of a summary report. Field testing consisted of deflection testing using a Falling Weight Deflectometer (FWD); coring; and limited subgrade evaluation using a Dynamic Cone Penetrometer (DCP). The deflection testing provided material property information, while the coring was important to validate the analysis of the materials and to determine actual variations in pavement thickness. The DCP sample testing supplemented the FWD results and identified variations in the level of subgrade support present. QES performed analysis of four different load configurations and our report provided estimates of the number of repetitions available for the various load conditions and for the ultimate stack capacity for 20 ft. containers on the pavement.
